High School

Freshman Year

My high school sports career was at Tar Heel High School. I was a four-year letterman in football and basketball. In football, they started me at slot back and tight end on offense and defensive end on defense. Due to a thigh injury I acquired during the second game, my season, in my opinion, was mediocre and I was limited to playing mostly special teams. Our team made it to the playoffs for the first time in a long time. We had a thrilling victory over South Stanley in the last seconds to advance to the second round. There we traveled to Murphy, NC to play them, but were routed 41-7. They went on to win the I-A State Championship that year. I made the All-Academic Team this year.
In basketball, I was a 6'1 starting center. Don't even say it, I held my own. I led the league in rebounding, averaging 13 a game. My season high in scoring was 12, and 22 in rebounding. I made the All-County Team this year. Our team advanced to the third round of the playoffs with two buzzer beaters over Union and Hobbton High School. In the I-A Sectionals we loss to cross-town rivalry, Bladenboro at Mount Olive College. This was as far as our school's team had advanced in 20 years.

Sophomore Year

This year my season in football was a lot better. I led the team in receptions and reception yards while still playing tight end. My best game being against South Colombus where I recorded four catches for 117 yards and a touchdown in the first half. I was second on defense in tackling while recording a little more than 100. We again advanced to the second round of the playoffs. In the first round we defeated East Wilkes rather easily. In the second round, we traveled to the mountains again to play Robinsville where we lost 21-7. I was All-Academic/All-County this year
In basketball my year was not as prosperous as my rookie season. I played power forward/center this year. I had an exceptional year in rebounding, but my scoring was still down. My best game was against cross-town rival, Bladenboro, where I tossed up 23 points and hauled in 20 rebounds in a losing effort. I was forced to resign toward the end of this season due to misunderstanding with my coach.

Junior Year

My junior year was a struggling season for my football team. We went 2-8 and needless to say, didn't make the playoffs. I still had a pretty good season as far as individual statistics go. I moved from outside to inside linebacker and led the team in receptions, reception yards, and tackles. I was elected All-Academic/All-Conference and Male Athlete of the Year.
My return to basketball wasn't as smooth as I wanted. There was still tension between my coach and I, but we eventually worked it out. We advance to the second round of the playoffs by beating North Surry in overtime the first round. In the second round we lost to Bladenboro.
I tried baseball this year. I didn't find it to be as interesting as football or basketball; I never really excelled in this sport.

Senior Year

This was a year of change for me. I was an all-purpose player. I played a little of everything in my final high school football season from tailback, to safety, to quarterback, to corner. I rushed for 1300 yards my first time ever playing in the backfield. Due to a bad ankle twist during the second game of the season, I was forced to sit out a couple of games and never really regained my health. We advanced to the second round of the playoffs before losing to Bladenboro. Our first round victory was argubly one of the best high school games ever played in our school's history. We defeated East Montgomery 21-20 with a last second field goal. I was named All-Conference/All-Academic and Male Athlete of the Year.
The final chapter of my high school basketball career was one of disappointment. We lost in the Sectionals to Jordan Matthews High School by three points.
I was not highly recruited coming out of high school due to the simple fact of lack of recognition. Although, I was awarded a full athletic scholarship to Winston-Salem State University. I chose this school because it had a good Computer Science program, it's a HBCU, and I wanted to move away from home, but not too far away.

College

Freshman Year

As a freshman at Winston-Salem State University I came in a saw immediate playing time. Reason being, I elected to play tight end instead of tailback for numerous, but one specific reason, Richard Huntley. He broke the NCAA Football rushing record for all divisions his senior year. I knew that I wouldn't be seeing much time at tailback with him back there, so I split minutes at tight end and started all special teams.

Sophomore Year

This year had it's ups and downs. I made a gradual transition from offense to defense. I felt as if I wasn't utilizing all of my talents at tight end. So I elected to move to defense. There I split minutes at outside linebacker. Once again I played all special teams. I had all of one highlight this season. It came during a televised game against the North Carolina Central Eagles. I intercepted a deflected pass in the third quarter.

Junior Year

My third year I found myself, but it was just too late into the season. I came onto the scene during the fifth game against North Carolina season. I blocked a punt, had 8 hurries and two sacks. This type of play carried on through the remainder of the season. I finished second in sacks on the team. Our season was still kind of disappointing though.

Senior Year

The final chapter of my collegiate football career was written in San Diego, CA against the Grambling State Tigers. We lost 28-21. I injured my wrist the second to last game of the season against Elizabeth City State. We tied for first place with two-time defending Champions, Livingstone College. They were named the Champions because they beat us in head to head competition.
